Dear Professor Haeckel,
I have to acknowledge with many thanks the receipt of a copy of the translation of your book on „The Wonders of Life”, which you have been good enough to send me, and I am looking forward with great interest to its perusal. Your former work, „The Riddle of the Universe” has been read by me, and I have also lent it to several of my friends, who have much enjoyed it. I think you will be interested to hear that I have given several addresses upon it on Sunday afternoons to associations of working men, and to young men’s classes. Many of their members take great interest in the problems therein dealt with.
With best wishes for the New Year, and in the hope that you may long be spared to carry on your scientific work,
I am,
Yours sincerely,
W. E. Hoyle.
