Dear Professor Haeckel,
Abovo 3 weeks ago I had the pleasure of sending you the Second Part of my „Studies in Heterogenesis“.
I know full well the great demands made upon your time in various ways, but in the interest of Biological Science I would earnestly beg you to read the Appendix to that part (pp xj – xvij only), and if you find, as I think you will, some evidence of genuine and careful investigation in regard to a || most important subject, I trust you will be tempted to read Section IX (pp. 124-138) and examine the photographs of Pt. X.
What I have said at the commencement of the Appendix will sufficiently explain why I have ventured to appeal to you in this manner.
I am,
Faithfully yours
H. Charlton Bastian
