My dear Professor
A thousand thanks for sending me a copy of your great work, on the finishing of which I heartily congratulate you. It is such a man of your tremendous energy who could accomplish such a pat.
With regard to English reviews I do not think that I could get a review with „Nature“ unless the editor specially asked || me to write one ‒ Professor Howes has promised to speak with the Editor tomorrow & see what can be done – I had also seen the Editor of „Science Progress“. He will permit a review of it in March. The January Number being already full. I had also seen Professor Bell who writes for the “Athenaeum” and if he gets the opportunity he will review the work as a friend, and not as an enemy. I will tomorrow see the Editor of „Natural Science“ ‒ These are the four leading scientific papers in England & if we can get the work reviewed sympathetically in them all, || the Rest will follow with.
We are very sorry to hear of your domestic troubles. My wife desires me to convey her sympathetic greetings to your wife. She always remembers the kind way she was always received when she called. I hope you no longer suffer from any after effects of your broken leg, but are able to get about with your usual alacrity, & enjoyment of life.
We recently had a pleasant but too short a visit from Professor Stahl, whom we were very glad to see again. I hope he found enough of interest || him in London to bring him soon here again.
My wife was very pleased with the beautiful pictures from your a Eastern travels, and sends you her thanks – She has already rad some 50 pages of your „Sytematic Phylogenie“ and is greatly delighted with it. ‒
