My Dear Haeckel
I send you a proof of your notes on the Radiolaria for the narrative, and I will be much obliged if you will return it to me with any corrections as soon as possible.
I also send you a copy of the plate and I will also be much obliged || if you will write on it the names you propose to adopt for the various forms, and also what should be put at the bottom of the plate. (Phaeodaria I suppose).
I understand you have a young naturalist working with you at present named John Arthur Thomson. I would like to know what you think of him. I have a post on my staff || worth £140 a year, and it has been suggested that he might take it. I want a man who will work hard to assist in getting our publications through the press. Most of his time would be taken up in proof reading and translations.
If you think Mr Thomson would be a good man for such a post I wish you would let me know. Do you || propose to come here in April? Have you yet received an invitation from the University?
I will have a Zoological Station here for you if you will come.
With my best remembrances to Mrs Haeckel and all the family
Yours very truly
John Murray
