Dear Haeckel

We will set about the translation at once, and put it up in type as we go on.

I send you a small box to-day with some of my preparations of the deep sea Rhizopods. || If you will look carefully at these you will I think find the same kind of dark cells or pigment bodies in these as in the Phaeodaria. I have thought it would be of interest to you to see these. These animals live on the bottom without any doubt. In my || opinion all the Radiolarians with these dark bodies (phaeodia) live in deep water beyond the reach of ordinary sunlight; although it is true they may occasionally come nearer the surface through ascending currents.
