„Challenger“ Office
12 Teviot Row
Edinburgh.
11 February 1879.
My Dear Haeckel.
I did not get back here till the middle of last week. I spent a week at Berlin, and was also back at Brussels again for a day. I enjoyed my trip very much, and feel much better for I was rather „seedy“ when I left home.
Sir Wyville was delighted to hear that you were getting on so well with our work, and he hopes you will come to Scotland this summer, or spring whichever will suit you best. I think you better make up your mind to come in the summer and bring || Mrs Haeckel and perhaps one of the olive branches with you.
Sir Wyville says the two plates of Medusae which you have on the stone will do as they are and they can be folded if found too large. He wishes you to make the rest of the Medusae plates the proper challenger size. You can have as many more plates as you require. ||
The plates which Giltsch has printed can be carefully packed up and sent here to my address. They can be sent by the cheapest or slowest route. I have no doubt they will arrive quite safe. Send me a note of the expenses in connection with the packing of the plates.
I send you two notices which we are sending to all the authors || in order to make up the annual report to the Government.
Will you kindly fill them up so nearly as you can, it is of course not necessary to be very exact.
You can count my plate of the Challengeria in with yours – the Radiolaria, and when you come over here I’ll hand you over my notes || and all the specimens.
Within the next few weeks I’ll send you some more preparations of the radiolaria, same as I give you lately, and will look for specimens from other Localities.
You can have some coloured Plates fort he Radiolaria.
With best remebrannces to Mrs Haeckel & the children
Yours very truly
John Murray.
