My Dear Professor,
I heard from our friend Trimen the other day, & was glad to learn that you & he saw more of each other after I left. My voyage was a sad & long one – we were delayed a week in the Suez Canal – & || I did not arrive in England until February 26th, having been 5 weeks on the ship. Not only so, but the vessel carrying my collection was run ashore, & many of my things spoilt through the damp & neglect.
However, I am now settled, and giving all my time to research, & I hope I shall „etwas machen“ before long.
I find it very cold after Ceylon, & these East winds shrivel me up completely. Do you remember the day we shot the „Flying Foxes“ (Pteropus)?
I have just written to Stahl, asking him to give a look at a new lens (1/25 immerse) I am ordering from Zeiss: I hope he will not mind doing this for me, as I am desirous of obtaining the best possible lens for high power work that I can get for the money.
When are you coming to England again. If I am able to visit Jena this summer, I shall certainly see you. Good bye, my dear for Jena &
Believe me
Yours truly
H. Marshall Ward
