Dear Professor Haeckel,
In the 10th edition of your Natürliche Schöpfungs-Geschichte there is a fine plate of the pithecanthropus alalus (a group of male, female, & child) by a German artist. I should very much like to use this in my lectures, but cannot photograph it as it is in your book. Could you tell me where I might get a copy of the plate? I should be very much obliged.
You will have heard of the scandalous action of Kegan Paul & Co. Curiously || enough, Kegan Paul was a Positivist when he issued the translation of your book, but afterwards became a Roman Catholic (& as such refused the fifth edition). I hope you will not think there are many London publishers capable of acting as he did. We told him months ago that we were doing the book & he did not say a word.
I hope you are getting better. There is much anxiety to see you here in the summer!
Yours very truly
Joseph McCabe
