John Murray an Ernst Haeckel, Saint Lunaire, 26. Juni 1901

Castel Sauffroy,

St. Lunaire, (Ille-et-Vilaine,)

France.

26 June 1901.

My Dear Haeckel.

We have been in this house since the 15th of this month and we propose to remain here till the 15th September. We only brought one English Servant with us, all the others are french (six of them) so we require to speak a || good french. My wife and the children are in the best of health and are very much enjoying the sea baths. The plage is just in front of the house. It is a very nice country and the weather has been very fine thus far.

We have a carriage and pair so we take nice drives about the country. Is there any chance || of your coming here to spend a week or two? We would be delighted to see you, and will do our best to make you comfortable.

I hope you are now in the best of health and that all goes well with your family. I may go to Hamburg to see the German Antarctic ship, but Iʼm not quite sure. I have some || idea of undertaking a systematic physical and biological survey of the Fresh-water lakes of Great Britain and Ireland, during the next five years.

Did you see that the old Abbé Renard had left the church and married a young wife!

With the best remembrances from us all,

ever yours,

John Murray
