My Dear Haeckel,

Very many thanks for the additional paper on Plankton, which I have been reading with much interest. I see there is a very sensible article in the Revue Générale des Sciences for this month by Thoulet. The name of the pelagic ostracode in the Plankton gathering from Loch Etive is Conchesia Elegans.

Two days ago I received from the publishers the new edition of your Natural History of Creation in English. If this has been sent to me by your orders I am very much obliged to you for this further addition to my library and further evidence of your good wishes.

I am busy with my last volumes of || the Challenger and in it there will be many Plankton observations.

I see you are having very cold weather in Germany and I hope you and all your family are keeping in the best of health. Here we are all well and rejoicing in the snow and ice. I find I am not yet too old to skate and toboggan down || hills with my little daughter!!

With best remembrances from us all

Yours ever

John Murray
