John Murray an Ernst Haeckel, Edinburgh, 26. Juni 1891

28 Douglas Crescent,

Edinburgh.

26 June 1891.

Dear Haeckel

I have some published letters from Agassiz to-day giving his experiences and his experiments in the Eastern pacific. He captured no animals in his closing tow-nets when in the open Sea, at depths greater than 200 fathoms but he did get a || few specimens in the Gulf of California at greater depths.

He does not say if they procured Tuscaroida and other large Phaeodoria. They must catch these and tell us the depth from which they come.

Then again as all the surface animals after death fall through || the intermediate watersa to the bottom tow-nets which do not catch some of these, however sparingly, can not be said to have worked with every success, in fact there is a doubt about them.

My wife and the baby are doing very well. Prince of Monaco is to be here in ten days or so.

Yours sincerely

John Murray.
