I hear from my friends in Glasgow that your picture has been sent on there from the Langham Hotel, London & that it is very pretty & interesting. I wish to thank you very much indeed for it. Mr Murray & I were sorry it did nota arrive in London in time for the wedding but am glad to know it is quite || safe at Home now.
Mr. Murray is quite well & we are very happy together and enjoying our trip exceedingly – We are looking forward to seeing your picture on our return next month & think it so very kind of you to paint it for us. Hoping someday to make the acquaintance of you & your family with kind regards

My Dear Haeckel
You will see that I am getting on very well in this new voyage of discovery – and it promises to be as interesting as any I have made and more important!! I don’t travel as fast as I hoped. Will not get to Malta till the 18th will be back in Edinburgh only in March.
