John Murray (Challenger Office) an Ernst Haeckel, Edinburgh, 3. November 1879
Challenger Office
32 Queen Street
Edinburgh.
3 November 1879.
My dear Haeckel.
The boxes with the plates and books arrived here safely on Saturday.
I sent the parcel on to Gunther.
I have sent the books on to Rottenburgh, || except „Das Meer”, which I have asked Rottenburgh to allow me to keep for a week, when I will send it to him. I do not know how to thank you for these handsome works. It’s very kind of you, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading them very || much. Don’t forget that I wish a copy of the French translation of your „Protistenreich” when it is published.
I hope to go to Italy sometime next year – perhaps in the Spring.
I have not opened the box with the plates yet, as we are only getting a place for them || I’ll let you know when I do so.
I have not seen Thomson for two weeks, but I hear he is getting better and better. I’m going out to Bonsyde this week.
Again my best thanks and remembrances to the family
Yours as ever
John Murray.
