Herrn Prof Haeckel
Dear Sir
We find that the sales of your works „The History of Creation“ and „The Evolution of Man“, are now grown small, and are decreasing yearly, so that the time has come in which we may try to make them into a single volume each, and to bring them out as cheaply as possible.
Will you kindly let us know if it will be possible to you to cut out any portion, so as in any degree to reduce the bulk without injuring || the value of the works. It will be of the utmost importance to make any alterations which are necessary before beginning to print, and if you think there are any alterations which you would wish to make we would send you sheets for that purpose.
Or if you would specify any paragraphs which might be omitted by letter, Mr. Paul would have pleasure in charging himself with the carrying out your wishes
We are, dear Sir
Yours faithfully
Kegan Paul, Trench&Co
