September 3rd 1911
Dear & revered Professor Haeckel,
I have thought of you over & over again during the summer & wished much to hear that you were recovering from your unfortunate accident. I can wait no longer & do beg just for a card with a few words. It was sad to think of you lying helpless while the summer || was such a splendid one. I was in Frankfurt a/M. in July & did much wish I could have paid Jena a call, & seen & shaken hands with you, but I had to return to Scotland. Here, now, we are enjoying glorious breezes from the Grampian Hills & I shall be so sorry when we leave to return to London. ||
In the sincere hope of receiving good news of you & with kindest greetings
Yours most sincerely
L. Dora Schmitz
