I beg to inform you as Secretary of the Edinburgh University Darwinian Society that you were, at the last meeting, unanimously elected honorary member of the Society.
The Society already numbers among its honorary || members men, such as Huxley, who have done much for the doctrine associated with Darwinʼs name. In doing itself the honour of electing you the Society felt that it was only paying a just tribute to you at this particular time when congratulations are coming to you from all sides, and was at the same time adding to the strength of its own ranks. ||
We are a small band and have difficulties to contend with, and should feel encouraged by your acceptance of this tribute to yourself and to your work.
