My dear Sir ;
I was delighted to receive your great book, „The Riddle of the Universe“. It is so broad and suggestive. I have only dipped into it here and there, but have taken it up very often, and find it most fascinating- Its success is very great, 14 000! What an immense sale for a book in such a subject! || The style is pellucid and so clear, like all your writings!
I thank you very much for interesting yourself in suggesting to Dr. G. Fischer to issue a German translation of it.
I do not expect a large sale for my little [?] book, but as you have strongly written in favor of it, and as Mr. Herbert Spencer has also written me his hearty appreciations of it, I feel that I have had the endorsement of the two of all other living men, whose opinion I most value.
With best wishes, dear Sir, I am
Yours faithfully, A. S. Packard
