Ein altes Versenwerk von mir,
– mit ihrem Hut als Symbol!
Haeckels‘ Hat
Under Haeckeel’s beaver hat
Huge and blinding bolts abide
Such as shattered far and wide
Error’s sable structures flat.
Warlike bolts that onward blaze
Clearing paths within the maze
Where dark Superstition sat
Safe from Haeckel and his hat.
Under Haeckel’s beaver hat
Glows a sun to lay the mists
Bred by pseudo-scientists
From the churches‘ steaming vat.
And the garnered gold is heir,
Covered by the silver mat
Under Haeckel’s beaver hat.
Under Haeckel’s beaver hat,
Science found her Luther’s tongue;
Truth to him was fair and young,
And he wooed her and he gat
From her love a joy that lights
Man to new and nobler heights,
Gleaming with the luster that
Shines from under Haeckel’s hat.
