Dear Professor Haeckel,
I now send you a proof of „Variation and Selection” from which you will see that I am no longer quite orthodox, certainly, but also I trust that I have endeavoured to continue the a line of development from the accepted teaching, without || any appearance of a discontinuity or controversial spirit, at least I hope so. I need hardly say that I shall be very glad if you can let me have a few criticisms if any occur to you before I sendb in the proof in the next few days. ||
And if it is not unduly troubling you, a line to the elector of the chair now vacant, of which I spoke already, would be also of great use to me. Forgive however my mentioning this again. I trust that you are having a prosperous winter & enjoying good health. || Arthur Thomson is now very successful as a lecturer (privat docent) on zoology; he c is developing into a very strong & capable man.
With kindest regards
Believe me
Always yours very truly
