Deeply grieved to hear that you are prostrate with the influenza, and trust that you will soon be yourself again. To reconcile our friends somewhat to their great disappointment, will you be good enough to send me a special letter (in German, if you prefer to do so) to be read to the guests at the Dinner?

I note with much gratification that you pledge yourself definitely to visit England in June or August next.
