I am very greatly indebted to you for your kindness in sending me your beautiful Report on the Challenger Siphonophorae which reached me a day or two ago. ||
I had already looked through it shortly after its publication, and was very greatly impressed with it. I think your day in Germany must be 36 hours long, for you seem to accomplish so much.
In the course of a few || months I shall hope to send you a report on the Comatulae of the Blake dredgings; they are very interesting. But at the same time very perplexing, owing to the great amount of local variation. I am sorry to say that the time at my disposal for research has been greatly reduced of late, owing to a considerable increase of profess-||orial work and I have quantities of Comatulae on my shelves awaiting description. Did you get many in Ceylon. Weh ave been hearing a great deal lately about the Echinoderm fauna of that island.
Believe me to remain
Yours very truly
P. H. Carpenter.
PS. I am not surprised to find that you do not appreciate Dr. Fewkes’ work very highly.
