Botschaft der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika an Ernst Haeckel, Berlin, 27. Februar 1908

EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

BERLIN.

The Ambassador of the United States of America has the honor to acknowledge the receipt of the letter which His Excellency Wirklicher Geheimrat Professor Dr. Ernst Haeckel addressed to him on the 26th of February from Jena, in which he enclosed also another letter addressed to Mr. Andrew Carnegie. Professor Dr. Haeckel asks the Ambassador to forward this letter and also to recommend to Mr. Carnegie to subscribe to the foundation of a Physical Museum now being erected at the University of Jena.

The Ambassador regrets to inform His Excellency Professor Dr. Haeckel that it is not in accordance with the rules of the United States Government to have personal and private correspondence of this character forwarded through its Embassies in foreign countries and that the Ambassador finds himself consequently unable to fulfill the wishes in this respect of Professor Dr. Haeckel.

The letter addressed to Mr. Andrew Carnegie is returned herewith enclosed and the Ambassador ventures to suggest to Professor Dr. Haeckel that it will reach Mr. Carnegie through || the open post at his residence, No. 2 East Ninety-first Street. New York City, New York.

February 27, 1908.

To His Excellency Wirklicher Geheimer Rat

Professor Dr. Ernst Haeckel,

Zoologisches Institut, Jena.
