Dear Professor Hæckel.

I thank you very much for the copy of the “Gastraea-Theorie” and for your photograph. I will in a few days send you one of my photographs. Sir Wyville Thomson suggests that I should || go to Jena and see you, and take with me my preparations of Radiolaria and Challengeridae. We can then go over them together and you can pick out those you wish.

I would like very much to show you the Challengerias. They || are quite different from Gromia, both in the shell and in the sareode. We frequently got Gromias when near land.

I think I would rather go to Jena in September than any other time. I will however go at any time that will be convenient || for you. Kindly then say when you would be most at leisure and I will endeavour to arrange accordingly

Yours very truly

John Murray.
