Edinburgh,

My Dear Haeckel
I am very glad to learn that you are pleased with the narrative of the cruise. The Challenger work is the right kind of monument for a Nation to erect!! As you have often said, and well said, the Nations will see it yet.
I am delighted to hear that you are getting on so well with the manuscript of your Report.
I have the volume of the Botany of the voyage nearly ready but it will be a month yet before it can be issued. I had hoped it would be ready by this time. I cannot leave here || till it is out. So you must not expect to see me at Jena for fully a month yet.
Have you any intention of coming to this country this summer?
What do you say to come to the British Association? It meets in the first week of September in Aberdeen. I must go.
Yours as ever
John Murray
