My dear Professor Haeckel,
The bearer of this letter is one of my pupils from Oxford – Mr J. Blomfield. He wants to spend his vacation in Jena and to learn German. I venture to give him this note to you and to ask you || if you can recommend to him a family where he might reside and be taught German at the same time.
I should say that Mr Blomfield has made very considerable progress in Biological study. He is a skillful microscopist, and has been working with me at the development of the || spermatozoa in Earthworm and Leech; also at the epiderma & mucous glands of myxine. Can he obtain any teaching on special courses in zoological matters now or is too late in the semester.
With very kindest regards and remembrances-
Ever my dear Haeckel,
Yours sincerely
E. Ray Lankester
