My dear Haeckel
This is to wish you Mrs Haeckel and all your family the very best wishes for the New Year and the New Century. May you all live happy and contented far into the XX Century!
It gave me much pleasure to see your daughter and son-in-law at Berlin || she was looking splendid and happy and my wife was very glad to see her.
I heard of you from Rottenburg lately and was very glad to hear you had nearly recovered from your unfortunate accident at Rome. You will yet do much work in the world!
I have been || slowly going through the „Welträthsel” and am very much enjoying it, as I get older I take more interest in these philosophical questions, but still I am working away at the sea floor.
We had some intention of going to Germany for a long time this year, but || this unfortunate war prevents any arrangements being made.
I thank you very much for the beautiful plates you have been sending me, as well as for your publications.
Kükenthal got the Challenger Volumes you asked for him. Lady Murray joins me in all good wishes to you and your family.
ever yours
John Murray
