John Murray an Ernst Haeckel, Corranmore, 8. Juni 1896
Corranmore
Oban.
8 June 1896.
My dear Haeckel
you will see from the above address that I have been away from Edinburgh, and I only received your letter of the 21. May yesterday on my return from an excursion. We have taken a house here till the end of July and I am here with all my family who are I am glad to say in || the best of health. We are both very grieved to hear of Mrs Haeckel’s continued illness. I hope you may have a good holiday in Switzerland and that you and that your foot may serve you as well as ever.
I shall be delighted to do what I can for Dr Schultze when he comes to Scotland.
There is only chemical work going on at Granton, and McIntosh’s fine new laboratory at || St Andrews is not yet in working order. It might interest Dr Schultze to work a few days at Dunbar where the Scottish Fishery Board have a Hatchery for marine fish in working order at this time. He could also go to Millport, Cumbrae for a short time. He could also see some dredging and trawling on the Fishery Board boat the „Garland”. If he cares to come North here I will be glad || if he comes to stay a short time in my house where he can do some tow-net work and Mr Pullar will give him sails in his yacht.
I am to be in Edinburgh and Glasgow from the 15th to the 18th of June (The Kelvin Jubilee) and if Dr Schultze arrives in Edinburgh about that time I could meet him there. Should I not be in Edinburgh Dr Schultze should call || on Dr Fulton at the Fishery Board Offices, George Street, or at the Challenger Office 45 Frederick Street Edinburgh and ask for Mr Chumley.
I may require to go to London towards the end of June, but if Dr Schultze will let me know when he is likely to arrive in Scotland I will endeavour to meet || him and do what I can to assist him in seeing or doing anything he desires.
With our united best remembrances and wishes for Mrs Haeckels better health
Yours sincerely
John Murray
