The books you have so kindly sent to me, have arrived here from Rottenberg. My wife says she had no idea you were godless!! and she is very much pleased with the religious representations. I have sent some of the books to David Robertson and also to Mr Henderson. I thank you very much for those you have sent to me, they will be most || useful and I will enjoy reading them. They will also be a most pleasant remembrance of your visit to the „Medusa”.
Some of my friends are endeavouring to have me placed at the Head of the Fishery Board of Scotland. But it is looked upon as a political appointment, so it is likely some politicians will get the post.
We moved into this house about a week ago: it is situated on the shores of the sea not far from Granton: it has a fine || view and about 18 acres of gardens and grounds. We have taken the place for two years. We now keep a carriage and can drive into the centre of Edinburgh in half an hour, – the distance being four miles.
We had not returned from the north in time for Murphy to send you the Funiculua etc. These specimens were all brought to Granton and to-day Turbyne is packing them up to send to you. I will let you know on Wednesday how they have been sent to Jena. ||
My wife and the baby are very well and like this country place better then the town: we expect another baby in May!!
In a few days I will write to you again. In the meantime my best remembrances to all your family and very many thanks for the books and other presents.
