Dear Professor Haeckel

I should have written long ere now to thank you for your kindness to me while in Jena, and to express the pleasure which I had in || making your acquaintance as well as to say how thoroughly I enjoyed my stay there, but I have not been home again so long as you might suppose. Dr Young, Mr Thomson || & myself went off to Dresden & Berlin, there I stayed some days – also in Utrecht with Hubrecht, and then in London, finally with my parents in the north.

Today I send you the separate copy of„“Morphology” || from Encyclopaedia Britannica. The publishers are of course quite happy that it should be translated. I sent Mr. Thomson a portion to go on with & shall forward the rest. –

I have unfortunately made a reference to Jena }October 1883 – If as I fear it will be 1884 before || you may have room for it, would you mind a printing the title at the end of the last Heft for 1883 so as not to confuse the references?

I trust that your foot has long ceased to give you ||any trouble and that you have comfortably settled down into the new home and new museum, without too painful a recollection of the b difficulties of || the „Ascidian metamorphosis”.

I hope too Mr Thomson is doing well. [Xxx] remember me to him, as also to Dr Jickeli & Herr Walter: also to your bright young son – || And so believe me dear Prof. Haeckel always very sincerely yours

Pat Geddes

Is there any chance of our having you over here at the Tercentenary of the University in April? If so may I have the pleasure of putting you up here?
