John Murray an Ernst Haeckel, Edinburgh, 18. Juni 1891

28 Douglas Crescent,

Edinburgh.

18 June 1891.

Dear Haeckel

I enclose you two sketch maps of the Clyde Sea Area the region we will be chiefly examining this year in the „Medusa”. If you have any suggestions to make as to new experiments on Plankton I would be very glad to carry them out. We could easily determine the quantity of organic || matter in our laboratory at Granton. Could you procure me some ten or twelve yards of the same material as that out of which Hensen made his nets. Doubtless he tells in some of his papers where it can be purchased. If you order it to be sent to me direct I will pay the bill by return || of post.

I see Brandt makes much out of the number of stations examined by Brady. Why the fact is these were picked out of representative regions, and do not represent more than a fraction of our tow-net gatherings. You yourself did not receive specimens from more than a fraction of our gatherings and the same for nearly all the workers. They could never have undertaken ||

the examination of all the material we brought home.

My wife and the baby continue well. My best remembrances to Mrs Haeckel and all your family

Yours sincerely

John Murray.
