John Murray an Ernst Haeckel, Edinburgh, 23. Dezember 1890

28 DOUGLAS CRESCENT,

EDINBURGH.

23 December 1890.

My Dear Haeckel

I have your Plankton-Studien, and I write, at once, to thank you for the dedication and the many kind and favourable references to myself: I have not yet read it all, but I can see the drift of your arguments: they are all good it seems to me at the first glance and the whole is in your old and best style. I || will read the whole carefully during the next ten days and will then write you more fully about the subject. I am very delighted that you have taken up this matter.

I hope to have the deep Sea Deposit volume out in about three months: in this I deal in a sense with the Plankton subject.

We are both well and and are going to Glasgow for the next ten days. || Yesterday we were buying some scotch cakes: so my wife sent one to you.

She is very anxious to see you so we must arrange to see you some time next summer if at all possible. She expects to have a baby in May so I hope all will go well this time.

I hope Mrs Haeckel is now in better health and that the girls and your son are in a very flourishing condition. ||

My wife would like some day to make the acquaintance of some of your family people.

With the best wishes for a Merry Xmas and a happy New Year from us both.

Yours ever

John Murray
