My Dear Haeckel

I am now busy moving my office from 32 Queen Street to 45 Frederick Street. Within two days however I will look out some specimens of Radiolarian ooze from the Indian Ocean and send them on to you. I am delighted to hear that you are making a comparison of the Radiolarian Deposits from different regions. I hope you will have published something in this direction || before many months:

We have had a misfortune. A few days after I wrote to you my wife was alone with her father when he fell down in a faint. She lifted him on to a bed, and in so doing seems to have hurt herself: at all event a son was born a few days afterwards about six weeks before the time. He was a bright little fellow but only lived two days. My wife was very much cut up || about the death of the little fellow. However she has made a good recovery, and is now going about the house as cheery as ever. We must hope for better luck next time!!

We are both very sorry to hear that your wife has been so ill – I hope she is now better. There has been a good deal of influenza here but we have thus far escaped.

We think of going || [on] a trip somewhere when my wife is quite strong. Perhaps we may meet you on the shores of the Mediterranean. Look especially for any of the foraminifera associated with the Radiolarian in fossil deposits. They are most interesting pelagic species.

Our best remembrances to all your family

Yours sincerely

John Murray
