John Murray (Challenger Expedition Office) an Ernst Haeckel, Edinburgh, 22. Oktober 1883
Challenger Expedition Office,
32 Queen Street, Edinburgh, 22 October 1883.
My Dear Haeckel
I return you to-day signed for press plates 5. 6. 8. 40. all belonging to IX series. Can you tell me if I have ordered to be printed the rest of this series viz. 1. 7. 95. 96. 97. 98! ? Are you now printing the VII series? ||
We have now received 62. plates printed off. i.e. series I to VI inclusive and two over. So what series do the two extra plates belong Nos 15 and 18. I will attend to the accounts.
By an extraordinary mistake, I only got your letter of the 15 July yesterday, along with the abstract for the narrative || of the Medusae and Radiolaria. Your letter was in the bottom of the box with the wood-blocks and was not noticed till yesterday when we took out the blocks to look at them. In consequence I never got Hunger’s account till yesterday. I will attend to it at once.
My best thanks for the abstracts I’ll send you a proof soon. I am delighted to hear that you || are getting on with the M.S. of the Radiolaria. Will be glad to put it in type! Schulze was here lately and gave me a full account of the new Institute and Villa Medusa. I must find Mrs. Murray and take her to Jena!! My best remembrances to all your family
Yours very truly
John Murray.
