John Murray (Challenger Office) an Ernst Haeckel, Edinburgh, 16. September 1879

Challenger Office

32 Queen Street

Edinburgh.

16 Sept. 1879.

My dear Haeckel

I hope you will have arrived safe and sound by this time, and I am sure your good wife will say you are better. Very || much better of your trip to Ur-Europa. I hope you found Mrs Haeckel and all the children flourishing and jolly.

I sent your boxes to Herr Kräfft on last Saturday, and I’ve also sent him the Bill of lading. I hope you will get them all safe. Send || me the bill when you pay it, for these boxes contain specimens, and can rightly be charged against the Challenger funds.

Have you received copies of the photographs from Rottenburg or am I to send them to you? The Abbé only remained a week after you left, he never ceased to || express his wonder at you. He thought „Haeckel was a man that never laughed!!”

I send remembrances from a number of friends, they all say tell him to come back soon. My best greetings to your dear Arancuna, the little Arancania and the boy.

Yours ever truly

John Murray.

Very best thanks for the Reply and the History of Creation, received some days since.
