Henry Nottidge Moseley an Ernst Haeckel, London, 20. September 1881
UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
BURLINGTON GARDENS. W.
Sep 20.81
My dear sir
I am a candidate for the Professorship at Oxford vacated by the death of Professor Rolleston. It is in future to be a chair of human and comparative anatomy. It is necessary || that according to English custom I should send in to the electors testimonials setting forth my claims to the post.
I therefore venture to ask you to be so kind as to write me a testimonial should you from what you may know concerning my researches || on various zoological subjects think that I am a fitted to undertake the professorship as far as comparative anatomy is concerned.
A testimonial from you would of course be of very great value to me indeed and I trust you will at all events pardon my troubling you in the matter. || I may mention that neither Ray Lankester nor F. M. b Balfour are candidates for the post.
I am my dear sir
Yours truly
H. N. Moseley
Herr Prof Ernst Haeckel
