Kegan Paul (Henry S. King & Co… Publishers) an Ernst Haeckel, London, 1. Oktober 1887

HENRY S. KING & CO… PUBLISHERS… LONDON.

65; CORNHILL, 1 October 1887.

Dear Professor Haeckel,

My friend, Mr James Knowles, the Editor of „The Nineteenth Century” is extremely anxious to gain your cooperation for his periodical, which as you no doubt know, has at once taken its place at the head of all similar publications in this country, and represents the mature thoughts of the most vigorous thinkers. || Mr Knowles will esteem it as a great honour if you will send him an original paper on any branch of the subjects which are your special study and interest. I have promised him to take care that it secures an exact and careful translation, which of course he would, if you should like it, submit to you.

The pay for the magazine is liberal, but I am not able to say the precise amount at this moment. I only, however, || know that it is such as our best men are well satisfied with. I shall be glad if at your earliest convenience you will let me know what answer I may give Mr Knowles.

The translation of the Anthropogenie is making good progress. Will you let me know whether you would like to look over the proof sheets before they are printed off? or shall we wait until we can send you the entire book?

I am, with great respect, ||

Yours sincerely

C. Kegan Paul
