May 18th 1911

My dear and revered old friend,

It is with deepest regret & concern that I learn from our newspapers of the sad accident that has befallen you. I fear this fall will be causing you great suffering & I feel I must send you a word of sympathy, though I know you will || be overwhelmed with messages from friends and acquaintances from far and near.

I do trust you will make a good recovery and be able still to enjoy this glorious summer, if only in your beautiful „Kastanien grotto”, of which you sent me such a || pleasant picture.

I shall look eagerly, & long, for a report of you, and earnestly pray it may be a favourable one.

With best wishes for your speedy recovery believe me

Your sincere friend and devotedly attached disciple

L. Dora Schmitz
