Dear Professor Haeckel,
The Board of Directors and a few friends are arranging for a portrait of Mr. Edward Clodd to be painted by the Hon. John Collier, for presentation to the Association. It will be almost uniform in size with the portrait of Mr. G. J. Holyoake which at present adorns our walls. The honorarium and cost of frame, etc, are to be quite nominal – £100 inclusive.
Believing that you will desire to be associated with this well-deserved tribute to Mr. Clodd, I am forwarding the above particulars to you, and shall be glad to receive any donation which you may be disposed to send.
