Dear Sir,

We are on the point of arranging with Messrs Harper & Bros, a well known and influential American-English firm for the American production of our translation of „Die Welträthsel”. Their and our publications would appear simultaneously, probably about the End of September.

You are probably aware that the American rights in the authorized English translation are no protection against ruinal translations. On this account Messrs Harper & Bros. think that you should consent to take less than £50 for the American rights, such as they are. I promised them to write to you on the subject, and beg you to let me know as soon as possible what is the lowest figure you are willing to accept.

Yours truly

Charles E. Hooper

Sect.

Prof. Ernst Haeckel.
