Dear Professor Haeckel,
I have not received copy of your new publication – I presume you mean the lectures you recently delivered. If you will instruct that copy be forwarded to me, I will at once let you know whether we will purchase the English rights.
I am grieved to hear of your accident, and hope that you will soon have the use of your right hand again. It will be a profound disappointment to your host of English admirers if you cannot come to London this summer as arranged. I am under a pledge to make a definite statement in the next issue of the Literary Guide, and I beg you to write to me again during the next fortnight.
