we should esteem it a great favor if you would please present a copy each of your most valuable works, noted below, for the use of this Public Library, an Institution most useful in its establishment and intended only for the mass education.
The projectors of the scheme being middle class people of India, who, you are aware and believe, could hardly, [be] able to meet the all necessary expenses of such an landable object || which has for its aim the amelioration of the public at large, without the hearty co-operation of the charitably-disposed Authors and Editors, who would kindly contribute their quota of beneficience in the shape of their writings.
It is, therefore, sanquinely hoped that you would be good enough to grant our prayer, and forward the books asked for, to the following direction, which, I need hardly say, would be very thankfully received and materially help the strength of this recognized Institution of Bengal. I sincerely beg to state that I have been desired by the managing Committee to draw your kind attention on this subject.
