My Dear Haeckel
I am pleased to hear that you have got on so well with your M.S. and I will be very glad to get it, a and I will attend || to your wishes about the printing.
On the other hand I am very sorry to hear that your wife has been so very unwell and also that you yourself have been ailing. I hope || your summer vacation will do you much good. Why should you not come here. I’ll give you £25 towards your expenses if you do. We have had a very fine summer thus far, but of course we can never || promise that it will continue. We will let you go to the country and live quietly, without more than one dinner a day!!
Yours as ever
John Murray
