My dear Haeckel,
I propose to make a trip to the Continent in September, after a few days in Paris I will go to Germany. I think I will turn up at the Naturforscher Versammlung at Cassel. I will also go to || Leipzig as I wish to see Lisbet if possible. I would like to see Hertwig – is he likely to be at Cassel? If you are to be at home I will give you a visit for a day or two, and renew the joys of last year! Tum diddle dum!
I have been busy with muds lately, and have had about ten plates of illustrations finished. I have also || had a plate of the Challengerids done proof ofa which I inclose to you. I do not know what to make of the large brown cells. I propose to write a paper for the Royal Society with this plate and then to hand over all my preparations to you, to do as you like with them. I will also bring you over a lot more preparations of Radiolarians besides the Challengerids ||
I hope Mrs Haeckel and the family are flourishing. Remember me kindly to all.
If I can bring anything over for you be sure to let me know. Do you know any man well up in microscopic mineralogy or petrology. I wish some assistance in this subject.
Sir Wyville desires to be remembered.
Yours very truly
John Murray.
