Ston Easton Vicarage
Bath.
Sir,
Forgive the liberty I take in addressing you but a correspondence is going on in the Record in which the authority of your name – magnum atque venerabile nomen – is quoted, not always | I think, correctly by some of the writers.
1. May I ask if any of your works on Evolution can be had in English?
2. May I ask if it is correct to spell your name thus: Häckel? or Haeckel?
3. And may I ask if, in your mind, the Evolution question leaves any room for a God or a great first cause?
Forgive me, Sir, for so troubling you but it is generally understood in England that you are a distinguished authority on the question of Evolution & I am therefore anxious to || learn your views at first-hand.
With great respect
I have the honour to be
Sir,
Ever faithfully yours
