Dear Professor Haeckel,
We have today received a letter from Mrs Balfour asking if we should be willing to bring out a translation of the new Edition of your „History of Creation”. We imagine that she cannot know or remember that we are already your publishers, and we are of course anxious to keep the work up to date. The sale has decreased of late, but we trust that the additions will || be no expression of your views on the matter, we should have placed it in the hands of Mrs Bell, who translated your Ceylon for us, and is a most able woman.
Perhaps you will kindly tell us what you think on the matter, and also send us sheets of the new edition as far as it has gone, that we may see how far the old stenoplates can be adapted. We presume that the greater part of the work remains unaltered. ||
I am dear Professor Haeckel
Yours very truly
for KEGAN PAUL, TRENCH & Co. LTD
