Dear Sir, –
the Rev. Thomas Ballard, in his „Miracles of Unbelief”, has devoted a special chapter to a criticism of your Riddle of the Universe. No doubt others have also attacked you, in Germany as well as in England.
Now it has occurred to me that you might be willing to reply to these critics through the columns of the Agnostic Annual, the new issue of which || I am now arranging for the press. Might I reserve 8 pp. for said reply? The honorarium would not be substantial – £5; but this fact, I am confident, would not weigh with you. I should require the MS. by Sept. 10th at latest.
I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you during your impending visit this country.
Faithfully yours
Charles A. Watts
Professor Ernst Haeckel.
